Day 2 and target achieved. Moville to Greencastle to Shroove and Inishowen Head. Then back the high road towards Greencastle and turning into a steep climb before descending into beautiful Kinnogue Bay. I'm pleased with 24.08kms on day 2.
1 June 2017 09:07: Catherine Crumlin: Great work already Jack, did you pass through Shrove on Tuesday😄😄😄 keep up the trojan work

Weather today was mixed at first with a few heavy showers but they were very short. Cloudy with the sun trying to break through and a cooling gentle breeze. I could have danced on the section from Moville to Greencastle. The hard shoulder was mainly grass and my feet are still feeling the benefits. I could have danced but I remembered that even after taking dancing lessons with Brenda I still have two left feet. Picture below showing the first signs that the weather might turn for the better.
30 May 2017 18:59: Eamonn O'Donohue: Well done Jack Tracking your progress. Keep it                    going.
1 June 2017 15:23: Helen Mc Cartney: Ah yes Eamonn we can live in hope and it seldom lets us down lovely pic by the way ah......

2 June 2017 22:15: Antoinette GreganWe'll have a whiskey on the risks when I catch up with you.
While the road from Greencastle o Inishowen Head was fairly narrow and with very little room to step aside the traffic volume was very low. The small beach here is so beautiful. Wild flowers growing on the risks. Water lapping gently onto a spotlessly clean strand. I relaxed here for a while a met Marie Stewart. We exchanged stories and parted. A very interesting lady.

OK folks, what you think about these windmills I saw on the final stretch of my walk on day two. I love them but I don't live beside them and if I did i might have a different opinion.
23:08 Ger O Byrne: Well done Jack 22km on day 2 is a great distance !! Sounds like you will be meeting lots of interesting people along the Way. With you in spirit......Ger
31 May 2017 00:05Ciara LeeI always like the look of them from a distance. To me they look majestic.. slowly turning , standing tall. BUT, I know they are noisy and don't think I'd like onr beside my house 🤔

On the beach at Kinnagoe Bay. I could have stayed for hours listening to Archie Jack (left) from Strabane, Chris Wolfe ( right) from Banbridge and of course my good friend Brian Thompson. Brian and his amazing wife Sharon have gone above and beyond to assist me, feed me and now put me up for the night. Exceptional people.

I have a wee bit of a dilemma for tomorrow. I plan to go from Kinnagoe Bay, where I finished off today, to Culdaff. The route I am looking at is the roadway, going through Leckemy, Gleneely and then on to Culdaff. My local friends tell me walking this stretch of road is not safe. They have suggested an alternative route that keeps me on the beautiful coast and on minor roads. This howevere means i deviate from the official WAW route.
31 May 2017 00:08 Ciara Lee Safety first!!!!!
31 May 2017 00:22 Ciara Lee If local knowledge says that the stretch of road is unsafe by foot..then they know best. I don't think anybody would hold it against you if you took a safer road.
31 May 2017 00:38 Jean Beatty Brenda McAtavey Donal would know that road yeh??
Ger O ByrneLocal knowledge and safety first. The Road not Taken. Stay Safe. Your musings will be better off road!!!
31 May 2017 06:58
Brendan O'DonohueDefinitely follow the advice of the locals... unless it's a trap, it could very well be a trap, ignore locals, it's definitely a trap.
31 May 2017 07:29
Emma BatesI live on the WAW in south Galway and if it's anything like the main road here, do not walk it. Narrow roads, stone walls and busses don't mix.
31 May 2017 07:46
Joan ONeillListen to the locals and stay safe.
31 May 2017 09:08
Ed Gunningger would never steer you wrong
31 May 2017 09:37
Murray AhernYour health is your wealth and so I would go with the local knowledge
31 May 2017 10:09
Bob GabbettMaybe Brenda has a vested interest in the advise you got from the "locals"( do they speak with a Dublin accent) Safety first !!
31 May 2017 12:09
Mary DohertyI think the best part of the WAW route is that people can deviate of the main road and get even closer to our gorgeous coastline and it is far nicer and safer to walk on quieter coastal routes.

A Bit of a Walk updated their status.
Day 1 I had my backpack stuffed and I also had two additional large bags strapped the that. Way too much stuff and that's after going through the contents several times and reducing do to what I thought was the no imum required. Today I deposited more than half the contents at Brian's house. I felt a significant difference walking today. So tomorrow morning I will jettison all non essential stuff . I will just keep one change of clothes.

May 29th 2017: Day 1

Muff to Moville: Estimated Walking distance: 22.83Km
Weather: Fine misty rain for most of the day but temperature was just right for walking
29th May 2017

10:07: First steps after saying goodbye to Brenda.
22:53 Antoinette Gregan: Not too hot or anything.
23:50 A Bit of a Walk: Temperature perfect but the rain was miserable. Head down and        mind elsewhere : )

10:17: Bit of rain for my bit of a walk.
12:57: Hitting the road again after taking a it of a break for some hot tea and a sandwich. Took a long break to try and dry out. Feeling great and very excited about the challenge. Now off to Moville to dry my clothes.

18:38: Arrived at the cosy cottage in one piece : ) and got my first stamps on the WAW Passport.
The first two thirds of day one was spent walking in the hard shoulder and soaking up that fine misty rain that seems to know how to penetrate your rain gear. I had to stop a couple of times to resecure everything, backpack, outer bags and my pants as they all started to have a mind of their own in the rain.

Walking on the road can be painful but I am in great form and encouraged by the good wishes and support shown along the way.

From Redcastle to Moville the rain almost stopped and the temperature was perfect. Unfortunately the hard shoulder ended at Redcastle and from there to Moville you just have to walk on the road to the oncoming traffic. My pace became very slow as I spent more time standing in the ditch while traffic passed than I did actually taking strides forward. This is what I expected so I was prepared to take my time in the interest of safety and self preservation.

The WAW is spectacular and I love Donegal and everything it has to offer. Today I had to use my memory to enjoy this particular part of a great county.

People have been fantastic and will be I know the highlight of this journey.
00:20: A stroll around Moville after dinner stopping to look out over the very still waters of Lough Foyle. This is a beautiful town with some magnificent old houses. No litter and very peaceful. I met Brian T for some 'refreshments' before I returned to

00:31: Tomorrow I head up through Greencastle and on to Shroove at Inisowen head. Then turning back towards Greencastle before setting off for Kinnagoe bay. This may be a bit ambitious but I have a rescue plan. I will be seeking some support to transfer the bulk of my baggage each day as this would permit me to cover a greater distance.
